Belgian Open 2012 - 19th June

The task yesterday was a fish-bowl task, strategically calling on all pilots to use their navigation skills in a 39mk cat's cradle task.
Sadly, the high winds which were forecast starting at even the lowest altitude level kicked in just as the window was to be opened, yachts bent over on the lake and dark patches of gusts on the water was a clear sign that it was unsafe to task.
Some pilots flew down and braved to 30-50km head wind to land in Doussard at the end of the lake, some others even braver (or more foolish - I can't decide myself!) flew to land in Perroix where the howling North wind was bouncing off the Alex plateau into the goal field. Nut-nuts!!
This mornign briefing at 10am as usual, and today has been awarded as a leisure day. We woke up to grey skies, predicting storms by the end of the day and drizzle overnight. Tomorrow is forecast to be wet and thundery.
Although there is no sun, the air temperature is warm at a comfortable 26°. Most have gone off to sample board-paddling on the lake, some others to climb the Tournette and sample the dizzy heights of the beautiful view here.
There is certainly pelnty to do other than flying.
AS for the results, after a kerfuffle and re-calculation over the scores (which aparently according to some are still not right), there are a number of us Brit pilots in the top 20. Although I can't rightly name the places, the pilots Jamie Messenger, Simon Twiss, Myself and Colin Hawke are all there. Jamie Messenger was knocked off his 1st place position overnight, and I am now joint 19th in the Open and 2nd in the womens, with only one point seperating Isabella Messenger (Germany) and myself.
The ambience is very jovial (apart from the dodgy scoring system!), and we are being offered a paella banquet this evening at l'Attero Bar in Perroix.
Aside from going off now to scoff my vege packed lunch, I'm going off to be a toughie and swim in the lake - without a wetsuit!!
Toodle-pip!
Over and out……...
